Info on Kindergarten & JR K
Thank you for registering your child for kindergarten with Marquette Area Public Schools. According to Michigan Law (MCL 380.1447) children are required to be five years old on or before December 1 of the school calendar year in which the child attends school. This minimum age requirement is the same for entering junior kindergarten as it is for entering kindergarten. You will need to fill out a Kindergarten Waiver Request if your child is not five years of age on September 1 but will be five years of age not later than December 1 of the school year you are enrolling in. Once you have completed online registration, you should call your resident school to schedule an appointment to finalize enrollment. Enrollment must be finalized before sending your child to school.
Kindergarten :
For children age 5 before September 1
If your child is ready for kindergarten and is 5 years old by December 1 you can still register for kindergarten provided you complete a waiver.
Class held five (5) full days per week
Junior Kindergarten:
For children age five (5) before December 1, (a waiver must be completed)
Class held five (5) days per week
Availability may be limited
Decision as to which Elementary building(s) will have JK will be made in June
