Message from Superintendent Saunders

Dear MAPS Parents, Guardians and Marquette Community Members,

Marquette Senior High School is undergoing a significant transformation of its parking lots and grounds this summer. The parking lots are riddled with potholes; we have water and sewer lines in desperate need of replacement; and we have light fixtures and poles that need updating. Perhaps even more significant in priority are the safety considerations:  the reworked design to alleviate points of congestion and traffic hazards, a safer crossing area on Fair Avenue, and a new camera system to better monitor outside activities. Parents and visitors will notice next fall that Fair Avenue will feature a new parent pickup/drop off that aligns with the front entrance of the school, and a new digital marquee will display all the events and activities of the building. Additionally, our new design will allow for limited access to bus and car charging stations for EV vehicles of the future.

Unfortunately, as part of this new construction, many of the trees in front of the building had to be removed. Several of these trees were diseased, one had been struck by lightning, and the rest had to be removed to access underground utilities. The project calls for the planting of many more trees than were removed. I also want to apologize to our neighbors for the noise, the temporary blocking of the roads, the commotion of heavy trucks and machinery, and the occasional dust clouds during times of high winds.

A special thanks to our entire community for their support of sinking fund tax dollars that allow MAPS to make these necessary repairs and improvements. This will make our schools safer and more student and parent friendly for generations to come. Thank you for your support!!
